Connect Over the Holidays with Messenger Kids
We know that the holiday season is a time to rekindle friendships and reconnect with loved ones no matter where they are in the world. Messenger Kids is rolling out our seasonal art and features to bring a little extra joy and magic to kids and their families celebrating the holiday season.
Holiday Masks, Stickers and Filters, Oh My!
We are excited to share special artwork and effects for the holidays, made just for Messenger Kids. Kids can explore different masks, filters and sticker experiences in the Messenger Kids camera, including rocking out as the dancing Santa; learning about Hanukkah using the menorah filter; adding the celebratory Kwanzaa frame to a photo; or ringing in the new year with the 2020 fireworks and confetti filter. New masks and filters will roll out every couple of days as we approach the holidays, so kids can check back in and find new experiences to try throughout the holidays!
Santa Says “Hello!”
What’s more magical to a child this time of year than getting a message directly from Santa? We are excited to announce that, starting today, parents will be able to opt in to activate the ability to message their kids as the jolly fellow himself, direct from the Messenger app.
Parents can use their newly activated Santa chat thread in Messenger to send their child messages that will show up in Messenger Kids as coming from Santa Claus. To kick off the conversations, parents can ask questions like “What are you thankful for?” and “What is something you were proud of in 2019?” Kids will be able to message “Santa” back in the conversation via text (video chat is not enabled).
A few things to keep in mind:
- The only messages a child will receive in the Santa Claus conversation will be ones that the parent sends. There will not be any generic messages sent automatically from Santa to the child.
- Messenger notifications are automatically turned off for responses to Santa to help preserve the magic, just in case the child is using Messenger Kids on the parent’s phone or tablet. Make sure to check Messenger regularly to see new messages.

From all of us here at Messenger Kids, we wish you, your kids, your family and friends the most joyous and wonderful holiday season.
