Messenger and Facebook Team Up with JoJo Siwa to Chat about Navigating the Holidays, Chosen Family, and LGBTQIA+ Allyship
We’re quickly approaching the holidays, which are all about connecting (and eating!) with the people you care about most. The holiday season is also a time to have meaningful conversations about issues that matter, and to support one another in our communities. Messenger and Facebook have teamed up with the one and only JoJo Siwa to co-host a conversation with It Gets Better Project and the Pansexual Pride Facebook Group about how to navigate the holidays with your friends and family as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
JoJo is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community who has used social media to share her story and connect with fans. She joined a Messenger Video Call with Pansexual Pride group administrator Erik Josef Audare, It Gets Better’s Education Coordinator Rae Sweet, and Youth Voices members Hammy and Zach to discuss her coming out journey, finding her mentors in the LGBTQIA+ community, how to be a supportive ally, and the concept of “chosen family.” Check out the Pansexual Pride Group today for published highlights from the conversation.
Holidays can be challenging for many LGBTQIA+ youth, which is why JoJo is big on the idea of a “chosen family.” Chosen families are made of people who are bound by shared connections and experiences. They play an important role in our lives — especially during the holiday season when some community members and allies may not have support from their families. “Holidays are really about celebrating with the people you love. That’s why I love Friendsgiving,” says JoJo. Through conversation and connection, she hopes we can all more easily celebrate and support one another this year.
JoJo also spoke about her work with Messenger on the How We Friendsgiving Watch Together series and the suite of features including soundmojis and stickers designed to help you and your chosen family plan the ultimate Friendsgiving. How We Friendsgiving is available on Watch Together, you can check it out with your crew on Instagram and Messenger.
Tune in to the Pansexual Pride Facebook page today to view highlights from the conversation. For those not part of the group, the conversation is also live on the Facebook App page.
Whether you’re getting together with your family, a chosen family, or both, Messenger, Facebook and JoJo are here to help you navigate the holidays, support you in your journey to cook 🔥 meals, set the mood, and stay connected, whether in-person or virtually. Tis the season! 🦃 🏳️🌈
